The Journey of South Pemba Region
The Regional Commissioner's Office South Pemba was established by Regional Administrative Authority Act of 1998 and its amendment of 2014, for the purpose of monitoring, supervising and assisting execution of the functions of the Central Government in the Region. The core functions of the Regional Administration are to observe that Government policies, plans and directives of the Government are fully implemented.
First Regional Commissioner
Hon. Khamis Saburi served as the first Regional Commissioner of South Pemba from 1964 to 1970, establishing the foundation of regional administration.
Early Development
Under the leadership of Hon. Malik Haji, the region saw initial development efforts in infrastructure and public services.
Growth Period
Hon. Moh'd Mohmoud Jecha led the region through a period of significant growth and development initiatives.
Transition Period
This period saw two Regional Commissioners, Hon. Iddi Khatib and Hon. Tereza Olban Ali, leading through a time of administrative transitions.
Modernization Era
Several commissioners including Hon. Juma Ngwali Kombo, Hon. Ali Abeid Nassor, Hon. Salum Juma Othman, and Hon. Hassan Mussa Takrima led the region through modernization efforts.
Development and Growth
The region experienced significant development under the leadership of Hon. Pembe Juma Khamis, Hon. Msham Abdallah Khamis, Hon. Juma Kassim Tindwa, and Hon. Mwanajuma Majid Abdallah.
Modern Era
Hon. Hemed Suleiman Abdalla and Hon. Mattar Zahor Massoud led the region through recent modernization and development initiatives.
Current Leadership
Hon. Rashid Hadid Rashid was appointed as the Regional Commissioner on November 19, 2024, leading the region toward continued development and prosperity.
